“Het Achterhuis”, the house behind the house, in the quarter “het Patershol” is located in the very middle of the historic center of Ghent.
Even though ideally located, it is very quiet since it borders on a nearby park..
Accessibility by public transport
To come by train to Gent is easy. As from Brussel Zuid (= Bruxelles Midi) where the Eurostar arrives, there are 3 direct trains an hour to Gent-Sint-Pieters.
There you can take tram 1, direction “centrum”, the platform is on your left leaving the station. There are trams every 6-10 minute. You can buy a ticket on a vending machine on the platform, costing 1,30€, or at the tram driver at 2€. Step out the tram at the count’s Castle “Gravensteen”, take Kraanlei, Oudburg, Drongenhof a 5 minute walk.
Alternatively you can take a cab at the station. The taxi rank is underground at your left when you leave the station.
Coming by car nevertheless is no problem. As for parking facilities there are tree possibilities, one is a parking garage under Vrijdagmarkt, 250m from the Achterhuis, at 26€ a day. Another unmanned parking garage (with camera supervision) is at 700m, Berouw 55, and costs 14€ a day or 6€ a Sunday (only with credit cards: Visa, Mastercard). A free parking is about 2km away along “Wiedauwkaai”.
